Project Assistant Internship - Minden Hills Cultural Centre & Yo

Position Title:   Project Assistant Internship     
Employer:   Minden Hills Cultural Centre and Yours Outdoors
Remuneration:   $14/hr; 35 hrs/week plus benefits
Terms of Employment:    27 weeks. Candidates must have a diploma or degree from a post secondary institution and be under the age of 30.       

Job Description
This unique public - private partnership between Minden Hills Cultural Centre and Yours Outdoors involves work related to the celebration of arts, heritage, and the environment  The Minden Hills Cultural Centre is a community gathering place that includes Agnes Jamieson Gallery, Minden Hills Museum, R.D. Lawrence Place, and the Minden Public Library.  Yours Outdoors is a company that specializes in experiential tourism, and develops and offers unique experience packages for tourists and local residents. The incumbent will help with a variety of projects including administration, development, and promotion of learning experiences and volunteerism. This internship has been made possible through the Youth Internship Program of the Haliburton County Development Corporation. 

Duties: 
Under the direction of the Director of the Minden Hills Cultural Centre and the owner/operator of Yours Outdoors the incumbent will:
  
• Assist with the development, organization, logistics, booking, and guiding of Yours Outdoors experience packages;
• Assist with the development of a volunteer program for the Minden Hills Cultural Centre including research, development of policies and procedures for recruitment, management and recognition;
• Assist with the marketing of the programs and services of  Yours Outdoors and the Minden Hills Cultural Centre including updating web sites, e-marketing, creation of  posters; writing of newsletters, Facebook page, and blogs; distributing promotion material; staffing of events and trade shows; and  creation of a marketing and promotions database.
• Assist with consulting projects of Yours Outdoors, and  other special projects of the Minden Hills Cultural Centre, as required.

Qualifications 
• A degree, diploma or Ontario Ministry Certificate from a post-secondary institution in a program related to environment, community development, education, or tourism.
• Knowledge and understanding principles and practices of experiential learning/tourism and   volunteer management; 
• Knowledge, understanding, skills and creativity in marketing and communications;
• Excellent oral and writing skills.  Good organizational, event planning and time management skills.  Tact, good judgement and strong interpersonal skills  
• Knowledge of and skills in a variety of computer applications including database management.
• Valid MOT driver's licence and ability to travel.  Having use of a vehicle is an asset.
