Volunteers are very important at the Centre in helping to continue the day-to-day operations and implement community programming. If you are interested in volunteering, consider the following groups. Please visit the museum, library or gallery and speak with staff for more information and to fill in our Volunteer Profile Sheet which will help us match you with activities that suit your interests.
Appointed Advisory Committee (Minden Hills Cultural Centre)
Meet monthly to approve overall policies, procedures, programming, business plan and budget for the organizations. Advocate and help create awareness for the Centre. Ensure standards are maintained. Ambassadors for the organizations in encouraging corporate sponsorship, connections to Foundations and ideas for fundraising. Board experience and/or knowledge of non-profit organizations' operations beneficial. Present at large functions.
Docent Committee
Study exhibitions with curators to develop information tours for visitors to participate in. Requires an interest in art history, the ability to speak clearly in front of a group of people, move large groups through in an effective way and create interactive dialogue. Opportunity to work on each exhibition, meet people and learn about different aspects of visual art.
Welcoming Committee
Greet visitors as they enter and encourage a return visit upon their leaving. Be responsive, friendly and courteous. Answer general questions about the Centre and Minden Hills. Inform visitors of upcoming events, direct people to facilities they require etc. Count the number of visitors.
Events Committee
Help the gallery with setup for events and Openings on a call basis. No committee meetings.
Programming / Acquisition Committee
Resource and sounding board for curators. Bring ideas and suggestions for exhibitions, lectures and/or workshops. Reviews potential artistsą work for exhibitions and Minden Art & Antique Show. Makes recommendations for acquisitions to the permanent collection and de-accessioning according to gallery/museum policies. Keen interest and knowledge of arts is necessary. Visits cultural organizations and studios on a regular bases. 4-5 meetings per year.
Gift Shop Volunteers
Complete sales transactions in gift shops, bring out inventory, enjoy interacting with people. Some phone answering and message taking required. Retail experience beneficial.
